This page is used to view standard research classifications, and create custom classifications for use within your institution.
Standard research classifications are Field of Research (FOR) and Socio-Economic Objective (SEO) ANZSRC codes used officially in Australia and New Zealand. In RME, these are system classifications which you cannot edit. There are two kinds: a) FOR-08 and SEO-08 are the codes used in previous years and provided to support legacy data, and b) FOR-20 and SEO-20, introduced by the ARC in 2020.
You can only fully edit and change custom classifications for use within your institution.
You can also set preferences for the code level to display in eForms in eForm Preferences.
Menu path: RME > Setup > Classifications
Categories are shown in the tree structure on the left of the page. There can be several levels for a classification:
• System classifications, such as FOR-20, which have three levels. Example: Level 1 - FOR-20 Field of Research Codes, Level 2 - 31 Biological Sciences, Level 3 - 3101 Biochemistry and cell biology
• Custom classifications only have two levels. Example: Level 1 - Qualifications, Level 2 - Qualification 1
Once you get to the lowest level, select a classification to display the details in the fields on the right.
1. From the RME menu, select Setup > Classifications.
2. In the tree hierarchy, select Custom Classification.
3. In the toolbar, click the New button.
4. Complete the fields, using the table below as a guide.
5. In the toolbar, click Save. To go back to the previous page, click it in the breadcrumb trail or use your browser Back button. To return to the main Classification page, click Close.

This will also make any child classification associated to it non-current. |

• To delete a custom classification, select it in the tree. In the toolbar, select Delete. You can only delete a custom classification if it is not linked to a record in RME, and if it does not have any classification codes linked to it.
• To control the level of codes available for selection in a Classification RIC in an eForm, use the Classification Reference Level Settings option in System Preferences, eForm Preferences.
