About this feeder

The RME Student Feeder is designed to import student data from a Student system to RME regularly so that RME always has the most up to date student information. It is normally scheduled to run as a Windows scheduled task using the RME Feeder Service Configuration Utility.

Data feed and field details: You can view low-level details for this feeder in the System > Documentation > Feeder Service page (under Student Feeder).

Note The toolbar on this page offers options that are relevant for the feature, such as Save. Other options that are standard for other RME pages, such as New, Next and Previous are not relevant and are not displayed.

Menu path: RME > Integrations > Student Feeder Service

Configure the feeder service

The sections below provide information to help you complete the fields in this page. Full details are available in the RME Student Feeder Guide, which is provided in the RME build package when you have the product key.

Before running the service, ensure that you have set up source data files using comma delimited CSV files as the fixed source for the file format. You can download a template that provides the data headers and the order you must use from RME > System > Documentation > Feeder Service. For details, see: Feeder Service.

Student Feeder Service: Fields

Field or section (in default order on the page)

Description

Student Feeder Path

Where in your network all the source files for the RME Student Feeder are or will be located

When setting up the location, it is important to grant necessary read and write access permissions to the user under whose account the RME Student Feeder Windows scheduled task will run. The program that generates the source data file must be able to access the network location with write access.

All CSV files in the root network location will be considered as files for processing and will be processed at the next scheduled time.

Preference

Settings to control whether the system should maintain a history of changes made between each data feed to student course enrolment and thesis details

You can set the following preferences:

Create Thesis History - Select this option if you want to keep every change to a thesis as a separate historic record.

Create Course History - Select this option if you want to keep every change to course enrolment as a separate historic record.

Data Selection

Data items that you want to be updated by feeder

All student data items in RME that are available are listed for each Student Feeder source file in this section. Your student system may not have all of this information, or you may prefer the data to be maintained in RME rather than in the student system.

Important! Be aware that this selection only applies to the update function. When a new record is created, all data items will be imported from the feeder source file regardless of the selection in this section, and data will be imported from the source to their corresponding RME data fields. For a subsequent update, only selected items will be updated.

For example, if Preferred First Name is not selected, the feeder will only import the value for the Preferred First Name field from the source when a new Student record is created. For any existing student record, the value from the source will be ignored during the subsequent feeder import.
