Investigator - Projects

About this page

This related item is used to collect information about people participating in, or associating with, the research project, such as investigators. This enables project administrators to check any personnel changes, and report on personnel associated with projects.

Investigators are added individually to the project. Most of the investigator details come from the Personnel module.  However, some fields can be modified to reflect the person's unique relationship to the particular project they are attached to.  Modifying the data in the Investigators related item in this module does not affect this person's personal details anywhere else in the system.

When an investigator is linked to a project and has an organisation linked via the Lookup field (not free text), a linked Organisation record is automatically created if one does not already exist. This is displayed in the Organisations related item of the Project record.  If there is no linked primary organisation, the new organisation will be set as the primary. See: Organisations

Some fields are used by the Costing and Pricing Tool and only display if this is used (as marked in the field table). Fields may be populated by an RPR eForm used for CPT.

Workload fields may be blank and available for completion, or they may be sourced from the Costing and Pricing Tool (CPT) if this is used by your institution and if these fields are included in a Personnel RIC in an eForm. Depending on eForm configuration and user access, the values may be changed in the eForm. If so, the values saved in the eForm will be reflected in the core module. For details, refer to the eForm Designer User Guide, Linked Personnel RIC.

Add an investigator

1.     In the Project record, go to the Investigators related item.

2.     At the far right of the related item, click Add.

3.     In the Person Code field, search for and select the person you want to add. For an existing person, some fields will be populated based on the Personnel record. If you can't find the person and the Create link is available in the lookup, you can create a new record.

4.     Complete the fields, using the table below as a guide.

5.     In the toolbar, click Save. To go back to the previous page, click it in the breadcrumb trail or use your browser Back button. When the details are saved, related items become available: Investigator Org. Unit and Contact Details.  Complete these as required.

Only available when the Costing and Pricing Tool is used

Read only

Indicates whether the person receives one or more allowances in addition to salary

For example, an allowance may be given for a position, such as Head of Department allowance, or it may be a negotiated amount. Due to the confidential nature of this information, the allowance value cannot be stored in RME. The intention of this flag is to be used as a trigger to notify RME administrators when an investigator on a project has an allowance. They can then manually enter the allowance amount in a strictly controlled page of an eForm application. For details, refer to the RME Costing and Pricing Overview document.

The list displays both the title (Employment record name) and the organisational unit name (AOU), if applicable, to aid selection.
