This related item is used to collect information about investigators participating in the ethics application.

Investigators are added individually to an ethics application. Most of the details come from the Personnel module for the person, however, some fields can be modified to reflect the person's unique relationship to this ethics application.  Changing the details in this Investigators related item does not affect the person's details in the Personnel module or anywhere else in the system.

Menu path: RME menu > Ethics Search > Ethics > Investigators

 

Add an investigator

1.     In the Ethics record, go to the Investigators related item.

2.     At the far right of the related item, click Add.

3.     In the Person Code field, search for and select the person you want to add. For an existing person, some fields will be populated based on the Personnel record. If you can't find the person and the Create option is available in the lookup, you can create a new record.

4.     Complete the fields, using the table below as a guide.

5.     In the toolbar, click Save. To go back to the previous page, click it in the breadcrumb trail or use your browser Back button. When the details are saved, related items become available to record additional details:Investigator Org. Unit and Investigator Contact Details.

Ext. Org. Code

Only editable once the Person Code is selected and saved; use either this field or the Organisation Name only field

Lookup to search for and select an external organisation from the list of existing organisations if the person is external

For an existing external person, this is populated with data from the Personnel module. These details can be changed.

Once you select an organisation from the lookup, the Organisation Name only field will become read only.

FTE/EFTS on this App.

Time spent on this ethics application

The value in this field and the below FTE/EFTS on other App. field must total 1.0.

Example: If the person will spend one day a week on the application, enter 0.2.

FTE/EFTS on other App.

Time spent on other ethics applications

The value in this field and the above FTE/EFTS on this App. field must total 1.0.

Example: If the person will spend four days a week on other applications, enter 0.8

Gender

Read only for an existing person; editable for a new person

Gender the person identifies with, from a defined list

Weighting for the person, as required by your institution

Involved From

Date from which the person is involved in the ethics application

Involved To

Date to which the person is involved in the ethics application

Order *

Mandatory

Determines the order of this person in the list of investigators

Change this number to change the position in the list. The default order is the order in which investigators were added.

Organisation Name only

Only editable once the Person Code is selected and saved; use either this field or the Ext. Org Code field

External organisation name (text entry), if the organisation is not available from the Ext. Org. Code lookup

Person Code *

Mandatory

Lookup to search for and add an investigator

If you can't find the investigator and the Create option is available in the lookup, use this to create a new person record.

Person's Role

Person's role as investigator of the ethics application

Preferred First Name

Read only for an existing person; editable for a new person

Person's given name that they prefer

Preferred Full Name

Read only for an existing person; editable for a new person

Person's entire name that they prefer

When entering a new person's details, it automatically defaults to values in the Preferred Title, First Name, Middle Name and Last Name fields.

Preferred Last Name

Read only for an existing person; editable for a new person

Person's surname that they prefer

Preferred Middle Name

Read only for an existing person; editable for a new person

Person's middle name that they prefer

Preferred Title

Read only for an existing person; editable for a new person

Person's title, such as Mr, Ms, or Dr, from a defined list

Primary Contact?

Indicates if the person is the primary contact for the ethics application

        Only one person can be the primary contact.

        For this module, a person can be a primary contact even if they are non-current.

        When adding a new investigator, to automatically populate the Investigator's Org. Unit related item with details from the Personnel record, this must be Yes.

If you want to change the primary, edit the current primary to slide this to No, then set the new one as the primary.

Primary Investigator?

Indicates if the person is the primary investigator for the ethics application

        Only one person can be the primary investigator.

        When adding a new investigator, to automatically populate the Investigator's Org. Unit related item with details from the Personnel record, this must be Yes.

If you want to change the primary, edit the current primary to slide this to No, then set the new one as the primary.

Position

Investigator's position in the ethics application, from a defined list

Read only for an existing person; editable for a new person

Person type

If this is External, enter details in the External Affiliation related item after saving.

If this is Internal, enter details in the Investigator Org. Unit related item after saving.

Manage Investigator records

You manage related items in the core page. Click the Add, Delete and Export links at the right of the related item in Ethics.
