About this page

This page is used to enter details about a research output (publication, other media or performance). In addition, a Research Outputs record can have a number of custom fields added for your institution.

Note that records for books and book chapters must have a completed ISBN related item to display in search and lookups. Records for journals and journal articles must have a completed ISSN related item to display in search and lookups.

Administrators: Add or manage custom fields for this page in Table Auditing - Custom Fields.

Menu path: RME > Research Outputs > Research Outputs (Search) > Research Outputs

 

Add a new research output

1.     In the RME Menu, select Research Outputs > Research Outputs to display the module search page.

2.     In the toolbar, click the New button.

3.     In the Collection Year and Category fields, select the relevant options from the dropdowns. The selected year impacts the options listed in the Category dropdown. Fields dynamically display in the page based on the selected category. To view details of the selected category to help you make your choice, select an option and click the Category Definition button on the toolbar. This displays the category details from the Research Output Category page if these details have been populated for your institution.

4.     Complete the relevant fields in each section depending on the selected category, using the tables below as a guide. There are various sections in this page.

5.     Click the Save button. When you save the basic details, additional related items appear.

Research Outputs: Fields

Available for Public Portal?

Only if the Public Portal is licensed

Indicates if research output details are to be shared in the Public Portal, available to the general public

If enabled, specific fields will be reflected in the portal, if available for the output. For details, see: Public Portal

Category *

Mandatory

Research Output category for the output

        The dropdown list depends on the year selected in the Collection Year field.

        Fields in this page dynamically display based on the selected category.

        To view details of the selected category, click the Category Definition button in the toolbar (if these details have been populated by your institution).

Collection Year *

Mandatory

Year in which the output was collected (as opposed to the year it was created), from a defined list

The selected year impacts the options listed in the Category field.

Confidential?

Indicates whether the output record is confidential and can only be seen by those with permission to view confidential records

Current?

Yes by default

Indicates if the application is currently active

If the application is no longer active, slide this to No.

Weighting applied to the output by default

Record Status

Status of the output record, from a defined list

Reference Number *

Mandatory

Reference for the output based on your institution's schema for numbering outputs

Fields dynamically display in this section based on the selected category. The table below describes many of the possible fields that may appear in the page, in alphabetical order.

Number of chapters contributed

For each individual output, the value should be equal to 1.

City Published

City in which the research output was published

Additional information relating to the output or verification process

Indicates whether the output contains data in all the essential fields and can go to the verification process

Conference Date

Date of the conference

Conference Name

Official name of the conference

Country Published

Country in which the research output was published

Custom Date

Date field that can be used to indicate any date information, as required

Date of Activity

Date that the conference started

Date Completed

Date the research output was completed

Date Verified

Date the output details were verified

Description

Free-text description of the research output

Edition

Edition of the book

Editors

Editors for the book or book chapter

EID

Scopus unique ID used for reference and linking

Electronic Location

Details about the online location of the research output

End Page Num.

Last page number of the research output

Evidence Claimed

Indicates whether the research output evidence was claimed

Evidence Received

Indicates whether the research output evidence was received

Evidence Sighted?

Indicates whether the output details were confirmed based on evidence provided, for the level noted in the field

Filed Date

Date the output was filed

ISSN/ISBN

International Standard Serial Number or International Standard Book Number of the output

These are 8-digit codes used to identify print media, such as books, journals, magazines and so on.

Issue

Issue of the output if part of a serial publication, such as a journal or magazine

Journal

Lookup to search for a journal research output

Keywords

Relevant keywords for the research output

Language

Language in which the output was published

Linked ISSN/ISBN

Linked ISSN or ISBN for the research output, if required

To change the main ISSN/ISBN, change and save the parent output value.

Location

Where a hard copy of the output is kept, or where the research output was shown

Medium

Medium in which the output is published or distributed

Missing Items

Read only

Any field that is marked as essential for the category but does not have data entered

This field is updated as the information is entered into the essential fields.

You must enter data in the essential fields identified in this list before the record can be marked as complete.

Number

Publication or issue number of the journal or conference

Open Access?

Indicates whether the research output is available in an open access repository

Organisation

External organisation for which the output was published, from a defined list

Version of the research output, for example, digital version

Parent Output Title (HTML)

Title of the parent output

Depending on the selected category this field may be:

        A dropdown listing books recorded in RME; a new book can be created if the option is enabled in the system settings - see: Create a new book

        A dropdown listing journals recorded in RME; a new book can be created if the option is enabled in the system settings - see: Create a new journal

        A dropdown to a custom linked list that has been selected in the category

        A free text field to enter details, such as Conference Proceedings

If a book or journal list is selected in the category:

        The ISSN/ISBN is displayed as well as the name of the book or journal, as read only

        The list of all ISSNs or ISBNs is displayed once the output is saved and additional numbers can be linked to the research output

Status of the patent

Place of Activity

Venue of the conference

Publisher

Publisher information

Publisher Item Identifier

Publisher identifier number

Quality Assured?

Indicates whether the output has been quality assured

The text can be in any language and accepts any Unicode characters. This can be formatted as required. See: Text editing toolbar

Total number of pages, calculated automatically based on the values in Start Page Num. and End Page Num. fields

Verification Level

Role that can verify the output for the level noted in the field

Verified? (Lvl 1, 2 and 3)

Indicates whether the output has been verified for the level noted in the field

There can be up to three levels of verification set up for research outputs.

Verified?

Indicates whether final verification is complete

If this is Yes, no changes can be made to the research output.

To make changes, if required, slide this to No. Depending on your process, it may need re-verification.

Version

Version of the Research Output record

Volume

Volume of the journal or conference proceedings

Year Published

Year the research output was published

 

Timeline

A graphic representation of Significant Events related to the record.

 

Related items

When you save the research output details, additional related items are displayed. For example, you can add contributors.

All related items are listed in the Help Table of Contents to the left of this page.  Help pages are also context-sensitive, so you can click Help on an RME page to view the related help content.

 

Manage Research Output records

You manage core records from the module search page, Results tab. Select records in the grid and use the New, Delete or Export buttons on the toolbar in  Research Output search.
