This page provides an overview of the Public Portal, which is a stand-alone website that can be used by members of the public to search for and view researcher profiles. While completely separate to the RME system, it sources defined details from the RME database.
Researchers and/or RME administrators can control whether to share details in the portal via settings in RME records for Personnel or Student, Projects and Research Outputs, or via an eForm (outlined in the details below). There is no single configuration page in the RME user interface for the portal.
If enabled, the following details will be reflected in the portal, if current and details are available:
• Researcher personnel information such as name, primary org. unit, current employment
• IDs, links, contact details
• Overview which may include the researcher’s bio, research interests, or awards (open text field)
• Projects for research projects the researcher is involved in
• Publications (research outputs) that the researcher worked on or contributed to
• Supervision history and availability
Full details about the fields shared in the Public Portal are outlined in each section below.
The Public Portal layout consists of the listing page which provides access to individual researcher profiles. Within each researcher's profile, different pages provide information to allow users to explore the details of interest to them, as follows:
• Overview
• Projects
Each of these pages are described below.
This listing page is used to search for and view all the public profiles of the institution.
Profiles are displayed in the alphabetical order based on preferred first names, and the first 25 records are displayed. If there are more than 25 records, pagination is shown at the bottom of the section. It includes profiles for all current RME Personnel or Student records marked as Available for Public Portal (except those marked as Deceased).
An alphabet (A to Z) is shown along the top of the section. Users can click a letter to filter profiles by that letter.
Brief summary details for each researcher includes: Image, preferred full name, whether the researcher is available to supervise (this text displays if the Personnel/Student record is marked as Supervisor? = Yes), and primary org. unit.
To view a researchers's full details, users can click the image or name.
Alternatively, the viewer can use the Search option at the top, right to search for researchers using specific terms or phrases.
The summary is shown next to the researcher's image, if available, when a researcher is selected from the listing page:

Modules: Personnel and HDR Student
The Available for Public Portal? flag allows you to control whether details are shared in the Public Portal from either current HDR Student and Personnel records, depending on context; whether the person was originally set up with a Student record (Student context) or a Personnel record (Person context). To share researcher details in the portal, slide this to Yes. You can search by this field in Advanced search for Student and Personnel core search pages.
For eForms, the Available for Public Portal? flag is also available to add to an eForm template to enable sharing via an eForm. This is useful if researchers do not have access to their Student record in RME.
The Overview field in a Student or Personnel record is used to capture the researcher's profile. It is a multi-line text box with formatting options, such as bold, underline, bullet lists and so on. The text can be as long as needed, for example to capture the researcher's bio, research interests and awards. Hyperlinks can also be included in the overview, if required (there is also another area for blogs and links).
If enabled, specific details will be reflected in the portal in the researcher's Profile section, provided they are not blank in the core record. See the information above in Profile Summary and Overview.
For core field details, see: Personnel record and Student record
Module: Projects
The Available for Public Portal? flag in the Project record page allows you to control whether project details are shared in the Public Portal. To share details in the portal, slide this to Yes.
For eForms, the Available for Public Portal? flag is also available to add to a template to enable sharing via an eForm. This is useful if researchers do not have access to their Project records in RME.
If enabled, specific details will be reflected in the portal in the researcher's Projects section, provided they are not blank in the core record. See the information above in Projects.
For core field details, see: Project record.
Module: Research Outputs
The Available for Public Portal? flag in the Research Outputs record page allows you to control whether publication and research output details are shared in the Public Portal. To share output details in the portal, slide this to Yes.
If enabled, specific details will be reflected in the portal in the researcher's Publications section, provided they are not blank in the core record. See the information above in Publications.
For Research Output field details, see: Research Output record
• You can search based on the Available for Public Portal? field in Advanced search.
• The Available for Public Portal? and Overview fields are available in Reporting Views for reporting purposes.
• For integration, Available for Public Portal? and Overview fields are available in the Student and HR Feeders and some RME APIs. Refer to the following technical documents provided in the package: APIs for RME, RME HR Feeder Guide, and RME Student Feeder Guide.
Customisation
RME Administrators with access to specific Page Views can customise elements of the Public Portal user interface to reflect your institution's branding.
• You can configure the Public Portal header and footer in Custom Content in these fields: Public Portal - Header and Public Portal - Footer. You can add HTML text and format the text using the options in the toolbar. Custom headers and footers are automatically reflected in the Public Portal, but the RME product logo cannot be removed.
• Some Public Portal global menu items can be customised in Global Label Preferences: Profiles, Projects, and Publications. Further customisation is under consideration for future releases.
• Custom style sheets can be applied to change the look and feel of the global menu in the Public Portal. These custom style sheets will not be overwritten by software upgrades. For details, refer to the RME Installation and Upgrade Guide.
