Salary Rates (ReCaP)

About this page

This page supports ReCaP, available in RME versions since 2018. A revised Costing and Pricing Tool was implemented in version 7.7.0 in mid-2021.

This page is used to maintain the HR pay scales used in salary calculations in Research Costing and Pricing (ReCaP).

Salary category options are shown in fields on the Project Team pages in ReCaP. There is no limit to the number of salary rates you can define in RME.

Salary category groups and categories are defined in RME.  See: Configure categories related to salary rates below.

Values used in ReCaP for salary calculations are: Gross salary including indexation, FTE % or number of hours committed for the project, and on-cost %.

At least one indexation percentage needs to be recorded for salary to be calculated.

Menu path: RME menu > Projects > Salary and Indexation (ReCaP) > Salary Rates tab

Configure categories related to salary rates

Salary Rates reference certain category groups, categories and any category items. Configure these in RME > Setup > Categories, using the table below as a guide:

Type

Set up category details in RME > Setup > Categories...

Internal salary group

> Person Related Categories > Employment Categories >  Salary Award

1.     The group name for internal salaries is Salary Award by default and has the eCode: SALARY_AWARD. The group name with this eCode will display as an option from the Contract Type field on Project Team pages. You can change this name to suit your institution.

2.     Under the group, set up relevant categories. For example, salary award levels, such as Level A, Level B  or HEW 1, HEW 2.

3.     For each level, set up relevant step levels as category items. For example, Step 1, Step 2, Step 3

Casual salary group

> Person Related Categories > External Salary Groups

1.     Set up a sub-group for casual salaries. This name will display as an option from the Contract Type field on Project Team pages.

2.     Under the sub-group, add relevant categories. For example, Lecturing, Tutoring and so on.

3.     For each level, add category items to a category. For example, Basic, Developed, Specialised.

External salary group

> Person Related Categories > External Salary Groups

1.     Set up a sub-group for the external salary package, for example, NHMRC. The group name will display as an option from the External Salary Package field on Project Team pages, which displays when such packages are defined.

2.     Under the sub-group, add relevant categories, such as Principal Research Fellow, and Senior Research Fellow.

3.     For each level, add category items to a category. For example, Level 1, Level 2.

Staff Type field options

> Common Categories > Finance Category Types > Finance Staff Type

Set up relevant options as category items. For example, Academic, Support, Casual.

Tip: If you don't want a category group, category or category item to display in a dropdown, make it non-current. For example, for the Project Team pages of ReCaP in the Staff Type field, if you don't want the Casual option to display, disable this category item in the Current column (No) of the Category details page.

Manage Salary Rate records

You manage core records from the module search page, Results tab. Select records in the grid and use the New, Delete or Export buttons on the toolbar in  Salary Rates.

Add or maintain an indexation percentage

See: indexation percentage
