This page is used to maintain the HR pay scales used in salary calculations in the Costing and Pricing Tool (CPT).
• Salary category options are shown in fields on the Project Team pages in CPT. There is no limit to the number of salary rates you can define in RME.
• Salary category groups and categories are defined in RME. See: Configure categories related to salary rates below.
• You can also automatically update salary rates in RME from your HR System using the RME Web API, Salary Rates web route (api/SalaryRate({id}).
This page supports the Costing and Pricing Tool (CPT), which was implemented in version 7.7.0 in mid-2021. Research Costing and Pricing (ReCaP) is a separate tool.

Salary-related category groups, categories and category items are shown in fields in eForms, core records and the tool. These are defined in RME > Setup > Categories.
Set up the following categories used for employment and salaries in CPT:

Tip:
If you don't want a category group, category or category item to display
in a dropdown, make it non-current.
1. Go to RME > Setup > Categories > Person Related Categories and select the Employment Types group. This is the parent group for salary categories. It has been set up as a parent group so that different rates can be set for the same HEW level and step based on employment type. For example, the salary rate at HEW level 10, step 2 for permanent staff (full time /part time) may be different to the rate for casual staff.
2. Under the parent group, two sub-groups are set up by default for Casual and Continuing. You can add new sub-groups under the Employment Type parent group to reflect your salary structure in RME.
3. The next level
down are categories for Higher Education Worker (HEW) levels or other
similar level. You can add category items in the grid for the category
at this level, such as step level. You cannot create further category
groups beyond this level.
For any sub-group created under the parent in step 2, add related categories
for HEW or other level, then add category items for the step levels under
it.
Example hierarchical structure in the RME > Setup > Categories page
> Person Related Categories
> Employment Type
> Continuing (or other sub-group)
> HEW10 (or
other HEW level category)
> Multiple category Items, such as Step
1, Step 2, Step 3 ...

Note: The existing Salary Award Codes category group, categories and items under the Employment Categories parent group remain to support existing configuration for ReCaP.
Consultancy rate calculations in the system are based on hourly rates, and are stored in the database as hourly.
There are various ways to record rates for different purposes when the Costing and Pricing Tool product key is applied, and if Apply Consulting Rates? is Yes in an applicable funding rule based on project type.
Type of rate / field |
Description |
Institution consultancy rate |
The Hourly Consultancy Rate field in the Salary Rates page defines the institution consultancy rate. In RPR eForms, this will populate the Institution Consultancy Rate field based on selected Salary Group, HEW and Step for the person in the RIC. |
Individual consultancy rate |
Individual consultancy rates can be recorded in a Personnel record, Consultancy Rate field. In RPR eForms, this value will populate the Individual Consultancy Rate field. |
eForm rate fields |
In RPR eForms, several fields are available for consultancy rates in Linked Personnel RICs and New Staff RICs: |
Chargeable Rate (CONSLT_CHARGE_RATE) This field may be blank or populated with the highest out of the Individual Consultancy Rate and Institution Consultancy Rate if these are available. Users can enter or edit a value by default. The value must be greater or equal to the highest of the individual or institution consultancy rate, and cannot be negative. May be in a daily or hourly format based on the selection in the Rate Type field, if used (hourly is default). |
|
Individual Consultancy Rate field (CONSLT_UNI_RATE) Read only field This may be populated by the Personnel record, Consultancy Rate if available. May be in a daily or hourly format based on the selection in the Rate Type field, if used (hourly is default). |
|
Institution Consultancy Rate field (CONSLT_UNI_RATE) Read only field This may be populated by the Hourly Consultancy Rate field in the Salary Rates page if available, based on selected Salary Group, HEW and Step for the person in the RIC. May be in a daily or hourly format based on the selection in the Rate Type field, if used (hourly is default). |
|
Rate Type field (RATE_TYPE) This is a dropdown with predefined options: Daily or Hourly. It can be used to allow users to indicate if consultancy rate fields are to be shown or entered as daily or hourly in an eForm. The values shown in these rate fields will be based on the selected unit. This only affects the display of the rate in an eForm. All consultancy rates stored in the database and used in CPT calculations are in an hourly format. The Rate Type field data remains in the eForm; it is not pushed to core records. |
|
Project core record fields |
In Project core records, a Chargeable Rate field is available in both the Investigators and New Staff related items. This field is either populated by the Chargeable Rate value from a RIC in an eForm when the Push to Database Tables workflow activity is executed, or can be used to enter a rate. A previously populated value can be overwritten. The value from an eForm will be converted to hours regardless of the Rate Type format in which it was entered (daily or hourly) as the system stores and uses hourly consultancy rates in CPT calculations. If no rate details are available, the field will be blank. |
You manage core records from the module search page, Results tab. Select records in the grid and use the New, Delete or Export buttons on the toolbar in Salary and Indexation.
